Here in Utah, by the time February rolls around we are usually tired of the cold, snowy, inversion filled valley we live in, but this year has been different. This year has been unseasonably dry and warm. Just yesterday I was outside in a short sleeve shirt, jeans and no jacket. Now I know that many parts of the country are like that in February, but we usually have weather ranging from 20 degrees up to an unusual high of 50. Not the 65 we had yesterday and should have again today. Well all this warm weather has made me eager for spring. I think it has also made the kids I work with at a local elementary appear to have spring fever, but that's another story for another blog. I've been so eager for spring that I've begun to think about planting my garden, something not usually done until mid April, and I've started the Spring-cleaning. I'll probably have to do it again, because we may just end up with a snowstorm that will close up the house and dirty my carpets again, but right now I'm loving the weather and this wreath. I finished this wreath and hung it on my door for pictures and I LOVE the way it sparkles. No I didn't add them, or use a flash. And the wreath wasn't even in the sun yet. I'm sure it will look amazing hanging on anyone's door, with or without the extra light shining on it adding to the sparkle. Two things immediatly come to mind when you mention Valentine's Day, hearts and chocolate. Well, since I'm not in the business of chocolate, red is the next thing that comes to mind. And so it is that hearts and red were the inspiration for these two Valentine wreaths. This heart shaped wreath consists of an 18 " work form and more than 30 yards of curled deco mesh. It is quite large and turned out dazzling. This red and black wreath is my current heart's desire. I had planned this to be red and white with some black, but as I got started the wreath took on a life of its own and told me exactly what it needed. This was contrary to my plan, but the wreath was right. The black accents were all it needed. I'm thrilled with how this wreath turned out. The pictures are amazing, but really, pictures don't do any wreath the justice they deserve they only give you a glimpse into the life and beauty of a wreath. This week, November 22 - December 1, I'm having a holiday sale on everything in my etsy store ($50 or more) use coupon code holidaysale15 to save 15%. We are looking to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner together with family this week and can't wait to have some snow that actually stays for a while. We are looking forward to having our daughter return form college for a few weeks as we enjoy the Christmas season. I hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday season. Jennifer Now this is what I picture when I think of Chirstmas. Pine bows, flannel blankets, or pj's or jackets, cozy fire in the fireplace, snow outside, a good book on my lap, kids building snowment, drinking hot chocolate, readying Christmas stories by the lights on the tree. This is a wreath that I would love to have hanging over my dream fireplace in my dream cabin. This traditional chirstmas wreath starts with a moss green burlap as the base. As I stumbled upon these bells I knew exactly how this wreath should look,. I added berries to the entire wreath, a plaid bow as accents and then the bells, which are set to display the snow flower design they have on them. But even with all those beautiful accents something was missing. I place pinecones that I had collected in the spring and still it wasn't quite right. It took me a while to realized that with the green brlap (which reminds me of the pine bows of a christmas tree) I needed the snow accents on the pinecones. Why is it that we associate pine cones with Christmas? It's not like the pine cones are in the treees at that time of year, and It's not like they have fallen to the ground recently, they do that in the spring. Anyway I always associate pinecones with christmas, and so do many others around so I guess this wreath was the perfect place to some spring pinecones. I heard that the colors for Christmas this year were teal and red. I love working with deco mesh and I found some beautiful, bright red that complimented all of my teal supplies perfectly. The teal stands atop the red, almost like water in a desert–which, considering I live in Utah and we almost always have white Christmas', seems a little backwards to me. After I found the red, I uncovered a light brown ribbon with sparkly teal poke-a-dots and (as my daughter can attest to) I melted. So I added some teal deco mesh as well and to add a bit of that Christmas flare, some teal holly berries and glittery snowflakes. It ended up becoming another bright and fun wreath that I loved to create! Who doesn't think of candycorns when they think of Halloween? At least a litle bit? Okay, so maybe a few of you don't but I do. They aren't my favorite candy (less now that my body doesn't always agree with high concentrates of sugar) but it's still a part of the American Halloween. This wreath was made to resemble that candy. I started with an orange deco mesh base, and added white and yellow deco mesh atop that. Well, really, I started with the candy corn decorations. I saw those and knew that someday I would come up with a decoration perfect for them. I didn't know it would be a wreath because when I bought them I wasn't selling wreathes at the time–but that's a whole different story. So after the deco mesh I added the candy corns, but I could tell something more was needed. I had my wonderful husband cut out the would candy corn that is displayed in the middle and I painted it (I know I painted it wrong; I have plans to fix that soon). When I couldn't find a ribbon that didn't scream Craft Store Purchase, I decided to stick with a beautiful yellow satin–it kind of screams full moon to me, but it works. Still, I felt that it wasn't complete. One day I came across these twisty, curly, glitter flower picks and I knew that if I dissassembled them I could get just the look this wreath need and presto! the finished wreath was found! (Nearly finished, at least until I repaint the candy corn and then I'll add new picture and it will finally be done.) Last year I wanted an amazing wreath for my front door because my son's mission farewell was a few days before Halloween. I know that sounds silly, but I didn't have a Halloween wreath before that and many people would be coming to visit us to say good-bye and wish him luck. I began looking around for inspiration and I saw a wreath that was feathery. So I started with a staw wreath base. I covered that with a black feather boa. When I went back to look at my inspiration I couldn't find it. I thought I had saved it on pinterest, but apparently I didn't and really it's hard to know if my mind jumbled a few other pictures together, orI was just forgetful and didn't pin, buth are highly likely. So I began searching for new inspiration at my local craft stores. At the time I was only searching my local craft stores for supplies, so I then added black roses, and all the glittery supplies to make it sparkle. My daughter talked me into purchasing the crow sporting a top hat and it's just the perfect final touch. I love this wreath I love halloween. Not the crazy gory stuff; the cute fun, 'scary' stuff. The thriller movies that have you sitting on the edge of your seat, that raises your heart rate, and unbeknownst to you causes you to hold your breath. The kid who jumps out and says boo, but you scream like a little girl. Ok, so I am a girl, but still you get the idea. That's the type of Halloween I like. So when I started on this wealth I knew it had to be fun as well. I started with traditional colors and a fun feel, but it was missing something. I wandered a couple of craft stores in the area and came across this cute little flying menace. I knew that this was exactly what it needed to finish wreath. I grabed the bat and decided to paint it with chalkboard paint, because that was new right - at least I thought it was until I browsed around the internet and found that It wasn't that knew of an idea, but It's still cute.
So here is the final project. A cute traditional wreath for Halloween with a chalkboard bat where you can write your own saying. I love Halloween. Not the gory bloody stuff, the cute fun stuff, the thrill of a scare, the racing heart during a scary movie. In fact, I love to watch The Village, or Signs or something along those lines, just to feel that scare and adrenaline rush like the rush you feel on a roller coaster. The green in this mesh is one of my daughters favorite colors. When I purchased the solid green I had some cute and funwreath for her in mind, but as I stumbled upon the green and black striped and then the black and silver stripes I knew right away that these all needed to blend together to make this dazzling wreath. As I cut and rolled the mesh It just kept getting fuller and fuller. This wreath contains more than 30 yards of mesh. It's deceptively full and lush. It looks amazing on my neighbor black door (thatnks for letting me take pictures there T) my just as beautiful on my white door. My husband says it reminds him of a tutu. Originaly planned as a simple halloween wreath this could also make a stunning spring wreath in March bringing out the green for St. Patricks day. I love the simplicity of this. In today's world we are so busy and have so much to look at and do that it's the simple pleasures that bring me joy. This wreath makes me smile. |
